| Tournaments: ROOKIE KARATEKA SET PACE FOR RP 5 GOLDS |
Fresh from his winning in the PHILIPPINE KARATEDO FEDERATION national championships this year, GERARDO RODRIGO ANONAS joins 4 other Karateka in winning 5 Gold Medals in the recently concluded ASIAN KARATEDO INVITATIONAL TOURNAMENT in Hongkong. Anonas, who won in the -60 kg kumite is an 18 year old Karateka from AAK ATENEO KARATE SOCIETY. The other gold medal winners are REVIE SANI of Marawi in the -70kg kumite event; veteran players MAE ESO SORIANO of SKI in the -48kg kumite event; MARNA PABILLORE of YDKA in the -53kg kumite event and NOEL ESPINOSA of JKA in the men’s individual kata.
STEPHANIE CAROL LIM of AAK ATENEO KARATE SOCIETY won the Silver Medal in the Women’s Individual Kata event via a controversial decision of the judges.

In an improvement of last year’s finish, AAK TEAM PHILIPPINES, coached by former SEA GAMES GOLD MEDALLISTS RICHARD LIM and JUAN CARLOS “CHINO” VEGUILLAS, won 2 GOLD, 3 SILVER and 8 BRONZE MEDALS in the just concluded 12TH KOI WORLD CUP held in EVIA, GREECE from 14-20 JULY 2003. The ASSOCIATION FOR THE ADVANCEMENT OF KARATEDO (AAK) also announced that we won the bid to host the 13TH KOI KARATE WORLD CUP in JULY 2004.

The Super Karate Kids @ SM Supermalls tournament continues with the SM Manila leg of the tournament. Just one half of a two-part series starting in SM Manila and ending in SM Fairview. This tournament featured categories in the Cadets, Juniors and Seniors division (15 years old and above) where as the second leg would feature the peewee and youth categories (14 years old and under).

AAK once again showed world class power in the 2nd International Open Junior Karatedo Championships (IOJKC) by garnering 3 Golds, 3 Silvers and 2 Bronze medals last June 21 & 22, 2002 in Mackenzie, British Columbia Province, Canada.

Cebu to test their mettle with their Visayan and Mindanao counterparts. This
tournament is the second installment of the Super Karate Kids @ SM Supermalls
Year 2 series that began its second year with the SM Davao leg last April 21
and 22, 2002.

It couldn’t have come on a better date. Last July 21, 2002, the Association for the Advancement of Karatedo (AAK) celebrated its 38th anniversary with a double World Cup Championship win by the AAK Junior and Senior Kata Teams at the recently concluded 11th Kobe-Osaka International (KOI) Karate World Cup in Dresden, Germany.
