Articles: CONFESSIONS OF A JUDGE

A year ago, like other moms, I scouted around for summer lessons to enroll my two boys in and ended up with basketball and bowling for the early summer months of March and April and Karate for the remaining vacation month of May. Taking the hands-on principle to the max, I bowled with Vinnie and inspired by my svelte friend/co-parent, Richu (already a blue-belter at that time), took the plunge and enrolled as well in Karate with the boys.

Articles: PAULINIAN POWER!
by Ana Tan SPCP-AAK

Don’t ever make the mistake of going around saying girls and kids aren’t meant for physical exertion like martial arts. You’d be wrong - very wrong.

For the record, it seems that in most of the country, Basketball is the prevalent sport. I really don’t know why, but what I do know, is that I am here about the St. Paul College Pasig Karate club, which, although may be regarded less by the rest of the school, has only too much to boast about. One might say that the SPCP Karate club is more than just an organization. It’s a powerhouse of quick-thinking, smooth-moving, arse-kicking martial artists.

Articles: WINNING MY FIRST MEDAL IN MACKENZIE, BRITISH COLUMBIA
By Kenneth Bryle Jimenez

It was a great honor for me to be one of the delegates to represent the Philippines in the 2nd International Open Junior Karatedo Championships (IOJKC) in Canada last June 20-23, 2002. I was hesitant at first because, I haven’t won a medal in local competitions here in the Philippines. This perception was in my mind until I told myself, “be confident, just be yourself and do your best.” I worked so hard, attending training three to four times a week even reaching till near midnight. This practice and training we had gave me encouragement and determination with the help of my Senseis who are very supportive. It was quite a hectic schedule for me between studies and training, but then, it helped me learn how to balance my time properly. As the tournament drew closer, I felt nervous and pressured.

Articles: THE CANADIAN EXPERIENCE
By Ruskee Sungalon

When it was decided that we were going to Canada last April, we knew that the forthcoming daily training would be a hectic one for us. I had to attend the rigorous training both at SM North EDSA and SM Megamall, expecting to finish the almost mid-night practices, while our parents scram their guts to complete all the papers necessary for the embassy. Finally, 5 of us (3 from SM Megamall & 2 from SM North EDSA) were formally announced to form the Philippine team bound for the 2002 International Open Junior Karatedo Championships to be held in Mackenzie, British Columbia, Canada.
