Last July 13, 2002, the Association for the Advancement of Karatedo (AAK) was
invited to give a karate demonstration to the employees and their dependents/children
at the Malacanang. The demonstration was in line with the Philippine Government’s
campaign for health awareness.
A small group of AAK students headed by Francis Cifra Sensei
and assisted by Camilla Pante Sempai simulated karate class showing karate kihon
(basics). A kata (forms) demonstration was also provided by Javerri Velasco
as well as a kumite (sparring) match between International Open Junior Karatedo
Championships (IOJKC) Gold Medallist Kenneth Jimenez and IOJKC veteran Jules
Yao. Also part of the group that gave a demonstration of karate were April,
Allen, Alyza and Alwin Batican, Anton Carlo Velasco and Bill Daryl Gutierrez
who showed punching techniques on target/focus pads. IOJKC double Silver medallist
Jert and Jules Yao, Javerri Velasco and Kenneth Jimenez showcased kicking techniques.
