The 9 member Super Karate Kids from the ASSOCIATION FOR THE ADVANCEMENT OF KARATEDO
(AAK) won (4) Gold Medals, 1 Silver Medal and 8 Bronze Medals in the recently
concluded 6TH KOREA OPEN INTERNATIONAL KARATEDO CHAMPIONSHIPS which was
held at Busan, Korea last 18-20 June 2010.
JAMIE CHRISTINE LIM won Double Gold in the 13 years old Kata and Kumite event. She
was also a Double Gold Medalist in the last the 3rd ASIAN KOI KARATE CHAMPIONSHIPS held
in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
ALISA KARMINA V. CIFRA, a varsity player of DE LA SALLE ZOBEL SCHOOL, won Gold Medal
in the Ladies Cadet -54kg Kumite event and Bronze Medal in the Cadet Kata Event .
JOSE RAPHAEL S. HABALO, a Grade 4 student from Xavier School practicing at AAK SM
Megamall Honbu Dojo won the Gold Medal in the 9 year old Boys Kumite event which
was dominated by Russian players.
JOSE RAPHAEL S. HABALO and ALISA KARMINA V. CIFRA were both Gold Medalists in
their kumite events in the 6TH WORLD SHITORYU KARATEDO CHAMPIONSHIPS which
was held at Beijing, China.
ALENN CASTRO won Silver in the 13 years old Kumite event; JOSHUA BALAO and LARS
PETERSON won Double Bronze in 13 years old and 11 years Kata and Kumite events;
DANIEL USON, RAFAEL LIM and ALENN CASTRO won Bronze in the 11 years old, Cadet
and 13 years old Kumite event. The AAK TEAM PHILIPPINES Delegation was headed by
RICHARD ANTHONY LIM and JUAN CARLOS “ CHINO” VEGUILLAS, referees for said
tournament.
This year’s championships was participated in by over 400 athletes from 27 teams
coming from 21 countries. The KOREA OPEN INTERNATIONAL KARATEDO
CHAMPIONSHIPS is a yearly event hosted by the Korean Karate Federation under its
President, Do Mo Jeang and is recognized by the WKF & AKF.
AAK TEAM PHILIPPINES is composed of athletes who were consistent winners in the
yearly championships SUPER KARATE KIDS @ SM SUPERMALLS. This series consist of
8-10 tournaments per year organized by the ASSOCIATION FOR THE ADVANCEMENT OF
KARATEDO (AAK) held at various SM Malls to promote and elevate the level of karate
among young karatekas from all over the country.
