Two AAK karatekas won three (3) Gold Medals in the 18th KOI KARATE WORLD CUP &
TRAINING CAMP held 19-26 July 2009 at the Stadium Perpaduan in Sarawak, Malaysia.
AAK TEAM PHILIPPINES sent ten (10) athletes to the said championships.
LARS HAROLD R. PETERSON, a student from Ateneo de Manila Grade School won double Golds in the 8-9 year old Boys Kumite and Boys Kata event. The other Gold medal was won by JAMIE CHRISTINE B. LIM in the 12-13 year old Girls Kumite; she also won Silver medal in the 12-13 years old Mixed Team Kumite and a Bronze medal in the 12-13 year old Girls Kata event. Both of them are training at the AAK SM Megamall and AAK Ateneo de Manila. AAK TEAM PHILIPPINES ranked 5th in the world in the overall winners standing among 25 participating countries.

5. RAFAEL ANTONIO S. LIM SILVER - TEAM KUMITE (12-13 YEARS OLD)
6. ALENN M. CASTRO SILVER - TEAM KUMITE (12-13 YEARS OLD)
7. NATHANIEL C. AROJO BRONZE - KUMITE (8-9 YEARS OLD)

More than 500 athletes from all over the world participated in the championships which was held simultaneously in 4 competition mat areas.
The AAK TEAM PHILIPPINES was headed by KOI Instructor and KOI Kumite Referee and Kata Judge RICHARD ANTHONY LIM and KOI Kumite Referee and Kata Judge JUAN CARLOS “CHINO” VEGUILLAS. They were both referees and judges for the final events.
Meanwhile, the ASSOCIATION FOR THE ADVANCEMENT OF KARATEDO (AAK) announced
that it made a bid to host the next 19TH KOI KARATE WORLD CUP & TRAINING CAMP.
All the winners in this World Cup are all champions of the MILO Super Karate Kids held monthly at different SM Supermalls.
