Tournaments: ROOKIE KARATEKA SET PACE FOR RP 5 GOLDS

Fresh from his winning in the PHILIPPINE KARATEDO FEDERATION national championships this year, GERARDO RODRIGO ANONAS joins 4 other Karateka in winning 5 Gold Medals in the recently concluded ASIAN KARATEDO INVITATIONAL TOURNAMENT in Hongkong. Anonas, who won in the -60 kg kumite is an 18 year old Karateka from AAK ATENEO KARATE SOCIETY. The other gold medal winners are REVIE SANI of Marawi in the -70kg kumite event; veteran players MAE ESO SORIANO of SKI in the -48kg kumite event; MARNA PABILLORE of YDKA in the -53kg kumite event and NOEL ESPINOSA of JKA in the men’s individual kata.

STEPHANIE CAROL LIM of AAK ATENEO KARATE SOCIETY won the Silver Medal in the Women’s Individual Kata event via a controversial decision of the judges.

Five Bronze medals were also won by the PKF Delegation in the following events: NORMAN “SONNY” MONTALVO of AAK JOSE RIZAL UNIVERSITY won in the -55 kg kumite event; BONIFACIO “BRANDY” MARIANO won in the open weight event; JOEY PABILLORE in the +75kg kumite event; ROLANDO LAGMAN of SKI won in the -65kg kumite event and the Men’s Kumite team composed of SONNY MONTALVO, GERARDO ANONAS, BRANDY MARIANO, REVIE SANI, ROLANDO LAGMAN, HANIFI SANI and SUGAR RAY METANTE won in the Men’s Team Kumite event.. The Team was coached by JUAN CARLOS “CHINO” VEGUILLAS and VICTORIA PABILLORE, who co-coach for the two Pabillore athletes.

Other members of the delegation were MR. ED PONCE, Delegation Head, RICHARD ANTHONY LIM, WKF Kumite Referee and Kata Judge and EDWARD PONCE, AKF Kumite Judge.

The PKF delegation of 10 athletes won 5 Gold, 1 Silver and 5 Bronze Medals and ended 2nd over-all to Malaysia which sent a full team.
